My exchange semester in the USA

The Tech Museum

Posted by Ian on August 14, 2011

So today I was still battling jet lag, but I set my alarm for 8.30am anyway to grab some breakfast from the hotel. But as I rolled over to look at the menu I realised it was not included, no problem.., next I saw that I was supposed to have selected my meal and hung the menu on the door before 12am yesterday, slight problem.. I could have still ordered it via room service, but it was more expensive so I decided to go out and buy something.. an idea I ended up sleeping on.. oops.

Hello 12pm.. gotta love jet lag.

Today is Tech Museum day! So after a quick video chat with my girlfriend (<3)

There is a robotics section where I got to see a demonstration of the now discontinued Sony Aibo robot dog. I took a video on my phone but the quality was kind of dodgy. I got to surf around on Google earth on a beastly 8 screen panoramic display machine!. You can build your own roller coaster on a computer then ride it in a simulator. There is an earthquake machine which I enjoyed, I can now say that I have survived a 7.6 quake, albeit only a 10-15 second one. There were robotic arms that spelled out my name using blocks, and drew my portrait from a picture!. I cruised around in a hover chair and raced in an olympic wheelchair.

This killed about 4 hours! I was so involved in the exhibits that I didn’t realise how long I had spent in that place.. not that I was complaining.. I think it was a bonafide nerdgasm and I haven’t even been near Google yet!!

One thing I found pretty funny was that, apparently, the Wiggles will be in town soon. I spotted a sign on the way home, maybe I should pop in?. Hmm bugger, that reminds me actually, I forgot to pack vegimite..

By the end of all this my feet were killing me.. I headed back to the hotel to relax and ordered myself some room service, a nice healthy… pizza. It was delicious, don’t judge me.

It’s now midnight and I’m not that tired yet.. I was hoping to have the jetlag kicked today damnit.. oh well :(
